Terms
Last updated 9 August 2026
These are the rules for using Yala. Using the app means agreeing to them. They are short because there is not much to say: it is an app for telling your friends what you are up to.
Yala is operated by Yala, 1501 Lincoln Blvd #1053, Venice, CA 90292.
Your account
You need a working phone number and you need to be at least 13. One account per person. Keep your phone secure — anyone with it can receive your sign-in code.
You can delete your account at any time from inside the app, under You. Nobody has to ask us to do it for them.
Texts
Signing up means agreeing to be texted: your sign-in code, and nudges about plans you can see when they cannot reach you any other way. There are never more than five nudges in a day, and none between 10PM and 8AM. Your carrier’s message and data rates may apply.
Reply STOP to any nudge and they stop. Reply START to have them back. Stopping nudges does not stop sign-in codes — without those you cannot get in.
The texts page sets all of this out in full: what you opt in to, when, how often, and how to get help or stop.
What you may not do
There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour on Yala. Specifically, do not post, send or share:
- anything that harasses, threatens, bullies or targets somebody
- hateful content aimed at people for who they are
- sexual content, and never anything sexual involving a minor
- violent or graphic material
- spam, scams, or advertising
- somebody else’s personal information, or a photo of them they have not agreed to
- anything illegal, or anything encouraging it
Do not pretend to be somebody else. Do not use Yala to reach people who have asked you to leave them alone. Do not try to get at parts of the service, or other people’s information, that are not yours.
Reporting, and what happens next
Every message, plan and person in the app can be reported: hold down a message, or use the flag on a plan or a name. You can block somebody at the same moment you report them, from the same screen, and blocking is also available at any time under You.
Reports are reviewed and acted on within 24 hours. Content that breaks these rules is removed and the account responsible is suspended or removed. Serious cases are dealt with immediately and may be passed to the police.
If you think your account was removed by mistake, email help@ya.la and a person will look at it again.
What you write stays yours
Your plans, messages and photos are yours. You give Yala permission to store them and show them to the people you sent them to, which is the entire job of the app, and to nobody else. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account.
Remember that anything you send can be screenshotted, and that a plan shared by link can be opened by anyone who has the link.
What Yala does not promise
The app is provided as it is. It will sometimes be down, a notification will sometimes not arrive, and plans will sometimes fall through — none of which is something we can be held liable for. Nothing here limits liability for anything the law does not allow us to limit.
Yala is not responsible for what happens when you meet people. Use the same judgement you would use without an app.
Ending it
You can stop using Yala and delete your account whenever you like. We can suspend or remove an account that breaks these rules, and will say why unless there is a good reason not to.
The legal bit
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts. If a part of them turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands. If they change materially the app will tell you.
